The eigth annual Kicking Up Our Heels event was held on April 15th 2010 at the Governor's Mansion on the Capitol Campus in Olympia. “Kicking Up Our Heels” celebrates the advances made by all of us women. This year we celebrated the legacy of women working in skilled trades occupations – our own “Rosie the Riveters”.  These hardworking women, who make up only 8% of trade workers in Washington state, are breaking their own glass ceilings.  They face great barriers and challenges including discrimination and declining numbers due to a lack of awareness, recruitment and outreach.  It can be lonely, but rewarding -- the jobs pay well and these women leave a legacy by helping to build something.
