Remembering Bernadene “Bernie” Dochnahl

Bernie during the Global Delegation to Morocco - 2009

It is with a deep sense of sadness that we announce the passing of Bernie Dochnahl, a long-time member, enthusiastic supporter, sponsor, and unwavering cheerleader of the Center for Women & Democracy (CWD). Bernie had a remarkable ability to fill each room she entered with a contagious passion, unwavering determination, abundant energy, and most of all, a warm and generous spirit of love.

Over the years, she actively participated in a multitude of CWD events, including not only attending but also speaking at insightful gatherings like Food for Thought and other vital programming. She also took part in Women at the Capitol (formerly known as Kicking up our Heels) and graciously hosted numerous fundraising parties that brought people together. Bernie traveled with CWD on many Global Delegations, including memorable journeys to the Baltics in 2003, Morocco in 2009, and Vietnam in 2011.

She consistently welcomed every opportunity to participate in CWD events or provide financial contributions, ensuring that the organization remained stable and accessible for all women. Her absence will be deeply felt by everyone, especially her close family and friends. Seattle has truly lost a legend, but Bernie’s remarkable legacy and the immense impact she made within our community will forever live on in our hearts.

In travel, dancing, parties, car events & the pure joy of being alive.

FOUND ADVENTURE

In exploring, walking 7 continents, camel & elephant riding.

ANTICIPATED FINAL CHAPTER

This life ends in love, fun and peace. I intend to move on to a new life I hope, with as much joy as this life has offered me. My hope in the next life is to be a DNA researcher and a helicopter pilot. I hope I have added value to this life.

Much gratitude to my extended family who gave me overwhelming love and hugs. Please no tears, no prayers, no flowers, or donations. If you must, plant a Redwood tree or bamboo to give oxygen back into the air, we have all sucked up.

The memories of our joy and fun are our greatest gift. Be kind to each other and fill the air with love.

Do not fear death but rather the unlived life. You don’t have to live forever, you just have to live

Tuck Everlasting….
